These smiling faces are students from my 2018 Hills Academy Summer School classes. The classes were attended by seventh, eight, ninth, and tenth grade students from the local school area in Rockdale County, Georgia. The students enrolled in a Summer Reading Class I taught featuring stories from “A Look Back in Time: Memoir of a Military Kid in the Fifties-Vol. 1.”
Congratulations to the Class of 2018; now you know why they are smiling!
I also taught afternoon chess classes to help the students develop self-discipline and critical thinking skills. Students learned to maneuver chess pieces, while focusing on strategies to overcome their opponents. To master the game, students were required to develop discipline, critical thinking, patience and perseverance.
