These high school students were assembled at the Rockdale Magnet School of Science in Conyers, Georgia, ready and willing to explain their science and engineering projects to the judges. January 24, 2020, was my second year as a science and engineering judge. I couldn’t wait to get started.
I met with a young lady who conducted an experiment to determine the impact certain chemicals would have on nerve cells. She wanted to find an alternative for pain medication that would be non-addictive. She was concerned that medicines, readily over the Internet, were causing harm to teens.
It was heartwarming to see the hard work that conscientious students put into their projects. They care. I know they are going to make a difference.
